From Cruise Port:    Dunedin

After departing Port Chalmers this tour approaches Dunedin from a slightly different route - with a fantastic viewpoint of the Otago Peninsula along the way. As you get close to the city there is a brief stop at Baldwin Street and the historic Dunedin Railway Station before making our way out onto the Otago Peninsula.

Meandering along the 'low road' towards Portobello, the evidence of Dunedin's 'fiery' past is obvious. Turning south we leave the sealed roads behind and travel through the scenic inlets, where the tide regularly replaces nutrients that attract waders and waterfowl to this remote and scenic area. Dunedin has some of the finest beaches in the southern hemisphere - we will take a short walk to one of them where the New Zealand Sea Lion can often be seen.

Our journey continues to the top of one of the finest lookouts on the Otago Peninsula. After walking through a tunnel of macrocarpa you will enjoy panoramic views of the Otago Peninsula and in particular, Cape Saunders - one of only two landmarks Captain James Cook logged in his journal as he travelled around New Zealand.

The tour continues south along the high road, offering great views of the harbour and city, as we head towards the suburb of St. Clair -where we will briefly stop to sample a slice of Dunedin's laid-back lifestyle.

If you are on the morning tour then we can also drop you in the city centre so that you can explore on your own. You may then either catch one of the ships shuttle buses back to Port Chalmers or take a local taxi.

If the ship arrives after 9am will you wait for us?

The tours are only offered to suit the ship's arrival times so we will wait for the ship to dock before departing. Please ensure you get off the ship as soon as possible. Don't wait for all the ship's own tour passengers to depart first, be at the gangway ready to leave as soon as the ship ties up.

Can I get dropped off in the city after the tour?

Yes, just let the guide know on the way back from the tour and they will stop at a suitable spot in the city centre. You can then catch one of the ships shuttle buses back to Port Chalmers or catch a local taxi.

What you say ...

It was good to see more of the surrounding region of Dunedin, and getting dropped off in the city at lunch time allowed us to visit the Speights Ale House for lunch.
